Elevating the All 4 App with Motion Design
Integrating strategic animations and exploring principles of movement to enhance the user experience within the All 4 streaming service. Exploring how motion design could aid wayfinding, and create a more playful and engaging brand experience that aligns with All 4's overall brand voice.
01
Translating Brand Identity to Big Screens
The All 4 rebrand established a distinct brand character, defined in part by a dynamic "swipe" movement. The idea was this represented a continuous stream of content. A key challenge was in exploring how this could translate onto the UI on big screen devices.
02
Leveraging Motion for a User-Centered Experience
Primarily we wanted to explore how motion could enhance the user experience and support the UI. For example, subtle scaling animations were used for focus states, helping users intuitively understand which element is currently selected. Sliding menus and cross-fading transitions provided smooth navigation between different app sections, minimising disruption and creating a more visually engaging experience.

03
Ensuring Seamless Developer Handoff
To ensure a smooth transition from design to development, I created comprehensive motion principles and specs, breaking down animation details such as timings and easing curves. I used Atomic Design principles to ensure motion could be applied consistently and efficiently across the board.
04
Ongoing enhancement
Interestingly big screen platforms come with a load of performance challenges that I've had fun navigating. Ultimately motion design should be considered at every enhancement opportunity. It not only elevates the app's perceived quality and responsiveness, but also plays a crucial role in strengthening the brand voice and creating a delightful user journey.
